About our club

  • Founded in 1904, Railway Union is Dublin's second-oldest bowling Club. The Club was a founder member of the "Irish Free State Bowling League", which was later to become the The Bowling League of Ireland (BLI) in 1927.
  • Originally an all-male bowling club, lady members became part of the club in 1975 and today both ladies and men participate in BLI and LBLI league and cup competitions, as well as all-Ireland inter-club and inter-association competitions throughout the bowling season.
  • Both our ladies and men's teams have enjoyed successes over the years and while we always strive to win, the pleasure of playing is just as important. As far as we're concerned, if players enjoy themselves, they play better - simple as that.
  • The club's colours as registered with the BLI are red and green. However, the colours of Railway Union Sports Club are actually green and old gold, as are our club colour shirts. Why red and green was registered with the BLI is, therefore, a bit of a mystery.

  • Bowls is a great and surprisingly exciting (yes, really!) way of enjoying a summers' afternoon or evening. If you've never played the game before, we guarantee it won't be long before the fascination of rolling a bowl to the jack grips you. It's an enjoyable way of keeping active in a competitive yet friendly environment. And, of course, you can enjoy a drink in the bar afterwards in good company.
  • Railway Union Bowling Club boasts a full competition-size 6-rink bowling green which is in use during the bowling season from April to September each year.

We're building a young, dynamic bowling club.
